Farm Family Spending For Consumer Goods Rises
A nationwide survey by the US Department of Agriculture and the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the average American farm family spent about $3,600 on consumer goods and services in 1961. Regional totals ranged from $3,160 in the South to $4,520 in the West, with higher incomes and prices driving the increase since the 1955 survey.

USDA Studies Marketability of Low Fat Milk
A US Department of Agriculture report says low-fat milk sales, a product expected to triple by 1970, will grow faster than whole or skim milk in coming years. In 1963 low-fat milk rose 24 percent from the prior year and surpassed regular skim milk.

DHIA Directors Vote Tester Pay Raise at Quarterly Meeting
Red Rose Dany Herd Improvement Association directors approved a 5 cent per cow pay raise for testers, effective July 1 1965, 8 to 5 vote. The raise offsets one half of the IBM charging arrangement with Penn State University and follows five years since the last tester raise. Associate county agent Victor Plastow noted Lancaster County uniquely shares the testing accounting. Willis Esbenshade, president, responded to a related letter during the meeting at the Farm Bureau Building.
