The Senate approved a multi billion dollar farm bill amid veto risk. Senator Allen J Ellender warned high milk price supports without controls could destabilize the program. Tomato contracts rise as Campbell and Heinz bid high

Campbell Soup Co. and H J Heinz offer $36 and $24 a ton on a grade basis to boost tomato acreage in Lancaster County this year, up from $34 and $21 last year. Some smaller operators switch to dairy or poultry after last year’s weather losses in tomatoes.
