Cattle Feeders Debate Costs And Equipment Choices
A group of local cattle feeders and experts discussed feed cost strategies in the corn belt, noting shifts to corn silage for smaller operations and reliance on concentrates for larger herds. Techniques ranged from affordable scoop shovels to outside anger systems for 200 to 500 head and fence line setups for over 500 head, with foot rot control urged through baths and copper sulfate. Updates included meeting rescheduling to April 15, farm signups for soil and conservation practices, and loan cooperative advances via FHA and ASC programs, plus new farmer co operators approved for free conservation plans.
