The Red Rose Dairy Herd Improvement Assn newsletter lists top lactation totals in Lancaster County. Grace, a Holstein owned by J Mowery Frey Jr, produced 21 451 lbs milk and 952 lbs butterfat at 44 percent test. Marie, a Holstein owned by C Richard Landis, produced 42 568 lbs milk and 943 lbs butterfat at 41 percent test in 305 days. The Amos B Lapp herd averaged 32 3 cows producing 1 843 lbs milk and 71 lbs butterfat at 38 percent, while Harry N Rutt’s Ephrata herd of 290 registered Holsteins averaged 1 675 lbs milk and 65 lbs butterfat at 39 percent.
The Women’s Committee of LCFA met at Mrs Clyde Wivell’s home on March 6. Mrs Wivell chairs the year, with Har old Rohrer as vice chair and Lewis Bixler as secretary. Members include Kreider, Wood, Wenger, Stauffer, Buchen, Dunkelberger, and Kauffman. Committees named: Sentinel, Legislative, Citizenship, Picnic, Flower, Health, Education, Safety, Policy Development, National Legislative, Scrap Book, and News Reporting. They plan projects for the year and will provide refreshments at the Lancaster County Farmer’s Association spring meeting on March 26 at 7:30 pm at the Farm & Home Center.
