Lancaster County Dairy Day returns next Tuesday March 9 at the Farm and Home Center under Donald S Eby president of Red Rose DHIA with a 930 am to 3 pm schedule. Atlantic Dairy association opens with a promotion film at 930 am followed by Penn State experts discussing Dairy Outlook Herd Management in the 70s Solitions to Abnormal Milk Problems Dairy Cattle Feeding for Efficient Production and Waste Disposal and Rotation. A Plastow Memorial Flagpole dedication at 130 pm honors Victor Plastow with exhibits by local dairy suppliers and the event is hosted by the Lancaster County Agricultural Extension Service with Milk Distributors Milk Marketing Co operatives and Dairy Breed Associations.

Tobacco Quotas Defeated Again in Lancaster County Vote
Lancaster County growers voted down a three year federal tobacco quota plan with 973 against and 296 for, from 1,288 voting of 4,190 eligible. The number of tobacco farmers has fallen by about 570 in three years. Dorothy Neel ASC director notes 54 farmers signed up for the wheat and feed grain program and signup runs through April 9 at the Farm and Home Center.

Consumer Education vs Impulse Buying Topic Meeting
The Lancaster County Home Economics Association will hold a meeting at the UGI Auditorium Lancaster with a hospitality hour at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Speaker Robert Lutz of the Bureau of Consumer Protection will discuss consumer education versus impulse buying. New Potato Promotion Law Sets Procedures for Referendum
The USDA announces an administrative procedure to implement potato research and promotion legislation signed Jan 11. Producers may be assessed up to one cent per hundredweight with a referendum vote by those growing five or more acres in the 48 contiguous states. A National Potato Promotion Board would oversee it if approved.

Young Farmers Regional Leadership Training Conference Held
A regional Young Farmers leadership training conference convened Monday at Eph rata High School auditorium. Henry Givler praised the effort as the first regional leadership program. Dr Glenn Z Stevens stressed ongoing education and post graduation use of the local school system. C Daniel Biemesderfer praised the Young Farmers programs in the Eph rata District. Frank Campbell, a Miller & Bushong sales rep for dairy and livestock feed from Lancaster, is in fair condition at Lancaster General Hospital after a Thursday snowstorm car crash near Quarryville. He helped direct Miller & Bushong's annual dairy awards banquet Wednesday.
