Vintage market notes show hogs 160-240 lb mostly 16 to 19 dollars with higher rates for larger sizes. Sheep and spring lambs steady to firm with lambs at 22 to 25 dollars for 50 to 90 pounds. June sale saw 238 hogs cross scales amid mixed prices and sows and feeders listed.
Mary A. Romberger 20, of Manheim Pennsylvania, is the first entrant in NEPPCO's 14‑state Poultry Princess Pageant. The event runs during NEPPCO's 27th Annual Exposition in Harrisburg October 6 7 8 with a $500 U S Savings Bond top prize and a year as reigning princess. Her sponsor is Hess Brothers Inc of Ephrata with NEPPCO headquarters in Trenton New Jersey.
Barrows and gilts traded 25 to 50 higher than last week with 1130 head moving. Sows were fully active as buyers eyed the Utility prices and stockyard ranges held firm.
Steady to firm bidding across cattle hogs and sheep. Barrows and gilts range 1190 to 225 pounds, hog prices mostly 1050 to 1300, sow values around 360 pounds. Sheep and spring lambs show steady to strong demand with 90 pound lambs at 24 to 26 dollars and light utility lots around 19 dollars. Pelts bring 4 to 8 dollars as buyers note recent head counts and comparison to last week.
A 4 H club meeting at Manheim Township Junior High School featured Doris Thomas and Alice Sy guiding members in project work. A future session was scheduled for June 25 at 1 30 p m at Manheim Township High School.
