Market report shows slaughter steers 25-50c higher and cows 25-50c lower than last week amid light supply. Slaughter steer loads range from 2700 to 2900 for various weight classes with high-Choice and Prime cats around 2850 to 2900 for 1340-1560 lb lots. Heifers and cows follow similar shifts with Choice and Good grades advancing or retreating across weight brackets.
Closing bids for cattle futures as of Thursday January 18 show a mixed trend with higher bids in some contracts and firmer demand in live cattle markets. Traders await longer term signals amid volatile options and grid pricing shifts.
Slaughter steers uneven from last Tuesday with few high Choice and Prime steady to 25c lower, others steady, some 25c higher on Good. Cows steady to 25c lower, bulls scarce and steady. Supply includes 28 percent cows. High Choice and Prime 1000-1250 lbs 28 50-2910, Choice 900-1325 lbs 26 75-2860, high Good to low Choice 26 25-2735, Good 24 85-2660, Standard to low Good 23 00-2500. Cutter 16 75-18 50, few 18 60-1900, Cutter 16 00-1750, Canner and low Cutter 14 50-16. Bulls—Individual Choice noted on Page 14.
Slaughter steers declined up to 50 cents from last Thursday with least decline on Choice. cows moved up to 25 cents. bulls steady to 25 cents higher. Supply included 32 percent cows. Reports show varied weights and grades across cattle, calves, feeders, and light lambs, with receipts and prices listed by category.
Cattle prices showed gains with steers 50-75 higher and heifers 25-50 up while cows and bulls held steady. In carrot dressed meat, steer beef advanced up to 100, heifer beef rose 50, while cow beef fell 50-150. Continued on Page 12.
