Harrisburg luncheon honors seven new Master Farmers with Amos H. Funk of Lancaster County as the first local recipient in 12 years. Funk, a vegetable farmer and conservationist, operates a 240 acre farm with winter tomatoes grown in plastic greenhouses for out of season market.

Lawless Named Allied Industryman of the Year at State Poultry Banquet
Edward J Lawless Jr a longtime Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture veteran dating from 1924 received the Allied Industryman of the Year award at the Pennsylvania Poultry Federation banquet in Harrisburg. Nearly 400 attendees applauded his citation as federation past president Homer Bucksler announced the honor and Lawless joked of adding more awards in the future.

Victor W. Plastow of Lancaster County received the 1966 Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association Award worth $100 and an inscribed plaque at the association’s annual meeting during the 51st Farm Show in Harrisburg. The citation praised valuable contributions to Pennsylvania’s dairy industry.

County Poultry Assn Urges Lower Freight Rates
At a Lancaster meeting the Lancaster County Poultry Association directors backed the Pennsylvania Poultry Federation stance for reduced freight rates on feed grains. The board said relief would help Lancaster County meet southern competition and ease regional egg and poultry production costs. Directors approved a series of mid winter informational meetings open to all poultrymen in the county.
