Newspapers And Molasses Make Nutritious Cattle Feed
Penn State researchers led by Dr Earl Kesler test a newspaper molasses ration for cattle. Heifers fed the mix weighed less daily than controls but tolerated a diet of 32 percent ground paper 48 percent molasses and 20 percent soybean meal with corn silage. The 56 day trial averaged about two and a half pounds of newsprint intake per day, suggesting newspapers could supply roughage for near urban farms. Further studies planned with milk cows.
