National Farmers Organization members from Perry and Dauphin Counties sold over 13 000 pounds of lean ground beef in 80 minutes. About 25 members aided in distribution and sales as shoppers bought five pound bags for five dollars. A health bureau visit found no issues.
The Hans Herr FFA Chapter in Lancaster County marks its first National FFA Week during Feb 15 22. Organized at Willow Street Vo Tech, the chapter earned its charter at the Harrisburg convention. Advisors James Kerr and Charles Patterson lead 42 students in horticulture and floriculture studies. The group prepared a constitution and year plan to gain state and national recognition.
Chester County Dairy Herd Improvement Association held its 16th Annual Meeting at the Guthriesville Fire Hall. Members amended bylaws elected three directors for three-year terms and honored two members for production awards. Jefferson D. Yoder won the butterfat award and Earl M. Weir won the high milk production award. Powers noted ten county herds averaged over 600 pounds of fat.
Gerald Keller of Lititz R2 at age 16 earns a county honor for his swine program. He started as a firstyear FFA project three years ago, built a market hog operation, and now runs a breeding program with 20 sons in four groups. He sells feeder pigs to his father for finishing.
