Seven Million Nickels Go For Profit Program
The Nickels For Profit program by the National Pork Producers Council shows 7,316,317 market hogs from 26,500 producers contributed 314,053.89 during its first year. One cent per nickel goes to the National Live stock and Meat Board. 107,996 returned to states to aid programs and growth, while 184,657 is retained for promotion, research, and trichinosis study. December counts in Pennsylvania show 4,261 hogs checked and 54,980 deducted this first year.

Poultry Lab Meeting Discussed With State Ag Secretary
Homer Bickster of the Pa Poultry Federation told local poultrymen a Feb 13 meeting with Leland Bull the state agricultural secretary will address establishing a Diagnostic Laboratory for Lancaster County. Dr Wilson Miller outlined costs totaling 27000 and argued for free enterprise over socialized medicine while questions about taxes and test demand were raised.

Larry Herr Tops 4-H Beef Record Book Honor
The Lancaster County Red Rose 4H Baby Beef and Lamb Club held its annual meeting and banquet at the Farm and Larry Herr, son of Mr and Mrs Carl Herr, 840 Penn Grant Road, was named top winner in his steer project record book with a perfect score of 100. He received a trophy from Eby's Mill, Lititz. Michael Longenecker, Lititz R2, was second with 99 and also earned a trophy. Linda Ober, 532 Petersburg Road, Lancaster, led the Lamb Club with 98, Ted Bushong was second with 96.6. both won trophies from Miller and Bushong, Rohrerstown. Additional winners include Marlin Bollinger, County Champion at the Farm Show, with a trophy from J. C Snavely, Landisville, and a gold watch from New Holland Division of the farm group.
