Dairy data show a large October to November drop in per cow milk production to 710 pounds in November, up 25 pounds from last year but 10 pounds below the November 1986 level. November output reached 513 million pounds, 2 percent above last year but 6 percent below 1966. Weather disruptions, low quality hay from rain, and conversion to winter rations contributed to the decline. dairy herds have about 2 percent fewer cows than a year earlier. A November 12 snowfall disrupted farm work in central counties and some dairymen used generators for milking amid lingering leaf cover on trees.
