NFU's Patton to retire after 25 years in leadership

James G. Patton 63, NFU president, will retire after twenty five years of service. He will remain active in private and government roles and offer counsel to the Denver based Farmers Union. Glenn Talbot will retire as vice president and the two top offices will be filled from the floor at the Denver convention March 13 to 17 1966.

New Study Part Of Pa Turkey Meat Test

A new study of turkeys is introduced this year as part of the 11th Turkey Meat Production Test by the State Department of Agriculture. Both toms and hens will be deboned at Pennsylvania State University to measure meat yield relative to dressed and live weights.

County 5 Acre Corn Contest Won By Hess

Lancaster County's sole gold ribbon winner Abram M. Hess earned 2070 bushels on five acres using Pioneer 3304 hybrid with a plant population of 21 200 per acre. Hess achieved over 200 bushels per acre in the statewide contest with 29 Lancaster entrants among 220 total.

Foreign Students to Spend Holidays in Southeastern Pa

Thirty five international students from six counties and Turkey will spend Christmas in Philadelphia and Lancaster. The group includes 32 men and 3 women from Cameroon Kenya Malawi Nigeria Tanzania Uganda and Turkey. They will visit government agencies industry and agricultural associations to learn about American life democracy and community. They stay December 19 to 25 in Philadelphia and December 26 to 30 in Lancaster under the Agency for International Development program.

Promise Of Hybrid Wheat And Other Advances Told At Conf

The 20th annual Seed Conference of Penn State in Harrisburg discussed hybrid wheat to boost yields from about 40 to 80 100 bushels per acre. Robert Pfeifer reported trials averaging 69 percent higher yields and noted 50 to 150 percent gains needed for profitability. Pollination and pollen transfer were highlighted as crucial, with enthusiasm high for future hybrid wheat. Vegetable hybrids also featured at the conference.
