Farm Show Sets 14 Dance Teams in 3 Divisions

Three divisions will judge a 14 team folk dance contest at Farm Show. Prize money totals 250 dollars per division. Judges include Duke Regnier, Miss Bernice Scott, and Charles Thomas. Teams span numerous counties and clubs across Pennsylvania.

Chicago Editor Named Head of Farm Writers

Richard Orr farm editor of the Chicago Tribune was elected president of the Newspaper Farm Editors Assn at the annual meeting in Chicago. James Colby of Davenport Democrat became vice president and Jack Putnam of Tulsa World was secretary treasurer. Directors include Robert Jjorklund of Wisconsin State Journal and Bernard Brenner of United Press Washington. Robert E Best of Lancaster Farming was the lone Pennsylvania attendee.

State cracks down on colored oleo in Pennsylvania eateries

State Secretary of Agriculture William L. Henning warns dining establishments they violate the 1947 Oleo Margarine Act by using colored oleo on tables or in food. Fines range from 60 to 1000 dollars. the Bureau of Foods and Chemistry enforces the law with samples sent to five state labs in Philadelphia Harrisburg Wilkes Barre Erie and Pittsburgh.

County Soil District to Supervise Tree Distribution

The Lancaster County Soil Conservation District will distribute and supervise planting of about 500000 seedlings provided by Glatfelter Pub Wood Co Gettysburg at no charge. Seedlings come from the state Department of Forests and Waters and must be planted by farmer cooperators under SCS supervision.
