He criticizes unproven cures and fad diets causing fear of cholesterol rich foods.
Jonas Z. Nolt of Smoketown leads Lancaster County DHIA with 33 Holsteins averaging 19,349 pounds of milk and 724 pounds of butterfat. Runner up is R. Edwin Harnish, Christiana, with 17,250 pounds and 716 butterfat from 40 Holsteins. Rufus G. Martin, last year’s champ, adds 18,410 pounds and 708 butterfat from 26 Holsteins.
Four hundred fifty acres of prime tobacco were sold in Lancaster County this week. Prices sat at 60 cents for pull off and 70 cents for unsized wrappers tied in hands. John Berger & Son Co of Landisville and House of Windsor of Yoe bought the crop, with Don Lefever of Manheim handling the purchases. Lefever contracted as much as 300 acres in one day, claiming he finished early.
Farmers in Huntingdon County oppose a real estate reassessment for taxes claiming they will pay more than fair share while nonfarmers gain relief. County officials deny the claim, but court actions are planned with similar actions in Dauphin and Potter Counties. Bodily threats have been reported amid growing anger.
