USDA Study to Probe Energy From Manure
A $59,610 USDA grant funds a year long study at Tennessee State University Nashville on a complete disposal recycling scheme for agricultural wastes. Animal manure and crop clippings will be decomposed in anaerobic digesters to optimize methane gas production and sludge output for fertilizer use. The work adapts an Indian biogas process to evaluate small farmers' practicality and energy potential.

Free Stall Barns and Milking Parlors Gain Popularity
Farmers weighing modernization must consider reliability and safety in free stall systems. Backups like a standby generator, gate layouts, weather protection for equipment, lighting, and safe electrical placements are essential. Conventional operations retain flexibility, while modernization is a personal choice for each dairyman.
Researchers explore recycling waste resources for energy
Project leaders are Dr Lilia Ann Abron and Dr Roland Norman. Analyses will be conducted in water and waste water labs at Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University with cooperation from the Environmental Protection Agency.
