Agriculture Not Political Says Benson to Pennsylvanian Farmers

Secretary Ezra Taft Benson told about 5 000 farmers at Hershey that American agriculture is not political and should not be treated as a campaign issue. He praised poultry progress, warned against price supports, and stressed farmer freedom to manage, noting egg and feed efficiency gains since World War I.

First Pennsylvania Livestock Exposition Planned for Harrisburg

Harrisburg announces the first Pennsylvania Livestock Exposition to run November 12 through 16 at the State Farm Show building and arena. Event will feature a western rodeo and attract up to 100 000 attendees with exhibitors from across the United States and abroad. The 1957 show used a 50 000 state appropriation and is run by a committee from the Pennsylvania Livestock and Allied Industries Association the State Department of Agriculture and Pennsylvania State University. Governor Leader calls it a productive use of the Farm Show facilities.

Deadline for Aberdeen Angus Show Window Auction Entries

The American AberdeenAngus Breeders Association announces October 1 1956 as the entry deadline for the International Show Window Sale of AberdeenAngus cattle. Sponsored by the national group, the event is part of the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago and will be held at 700 pm on Monday November 26 1956.

Soil Bank Plan Spurs County Growth at Hershey Event

The Soil Bank program, praised by Ezra Taft Benson, aims to raise prices and curb surpluses benefiting Pennsylvania farmers. A state committee led by Leon Falk Jr. of Pittsburgh coordinates monthly subcommittees while the upcoming Pennsylvania Livestock Exposition will feature 400 head from the National Polled Hereford Show. Elizabeth Erb of Mount Zion crowned Miss Pennsylvania Honey Bee Queen at Dutch Days, Lebanon County.

Chicago cattle sale Show Window entries highlighted

Exhibitors pay a 25 dollar per head entry fee as the top 10 bulls and 40 females sell in the Show Window offering. Entries to the sale are also entered in the Exposition with cattle coming from the United States and Canada.
