Poultry dealer introduces new cart for cage birds
Lancaster County dealer Carl B. Risser of Lititz has patented a chicken carrying cart designed for modern cage layer houses. The all metal cart speeds work, enabling a 14-man crew to load 400 to 508 birds per trip and move directly to the truck, with four carts in use to avoid delays.

Associate county agent Victor Plastow issued instructions for the district dairy show at Hershey on Friday August 25. The event starts at 9 am with Jersey, Ayrshire and Guernsey in Ring 1 and Brown Swiss Holstein and Milking Shorthorns in Ring 2. No entries released before 2 pm and animals arrive at Hershey Thursday between 9 am and 5:30 pm.

Cornerstone Rite Marks County Farm and Home Center Progress
A cornerstone ceremony at the Lancaster County Farm and Home Center site along the Route 30 bypass marked progress toward completion. State Senator Richard A. Snyder helped dedicate time at 3 30 p m as the one third completed building is slated to open January first next year as Pennsylvania's first such Center. Local officials and Farm and Home directors attended, with objects placed for preservation including a 1967 Lancaster Farming issue and campaign brochures. Givler Named Lancaster York Area Vocational Ag Director
Henry E. Givler will become the Lancaster York area director of vocational agriculture when a replacement is found for his current post. Dr. Harry Gerlach announced the appointment citing Givler’s 15 years in teaching vocational agriculture and his work starting the Red Lion and Pequea Valley departments. The area serves about 700 students in 18 LO ag chapters with roughly 300 in York County and 400 in Lancaster County.
