Oak leaf roller moth research targets pheromone clues
Penn State chemists and entomologists led by Dr. Lawrence B. Hendry and Dr. Ralph O. Mumma study pheromone production from about 20 000 female oak leaf roller moths and its synthetic replication for pest management. Field tests show a single material attracted up to 7 000 males in a week, with researchers pursuing a pheromone blend for effective traps. In Pennsylvania flood-prone areas, U S Soil Conservation Service maps flood risks for the Federal Flood Insurance Program with local government building permits data.
