Miss Karen Lynn Kuipers selected to represent Lancaster County poultry at the Hershey Poultry Festival in August 2029. She aims for the state title while the current holder is Lucy Jane Frye of Pineville Bucks County.

Solanco Youth Earl Wenger Contending For County Star Farmer

Earl Wenger of Solanco is in the running for the County Star Farmer degree as one of five FFA candidates. He focuses on dairy, with 11 registered Holsteins, six cows and five heifers valued at 3500 dollars, on a 550 acre dairy farm with his parents in the Quarryville area. The Wenger herd totals 80 Holsteins with 65 cows milking, and no cash crops are grown on 300 cultivated acres.

PFA Organizes Hay Listing Service for Members

The Pennsylvania Farmer's Association launches a Hay Lasting Service to help members buy hay amid a four year drought. Rob ert Hess, president of the Lane County Farmers Association, says the program aids PFA members seeking to purchase forage as parts of the state report rain.

Risser Cow And Frey Herd Head June DHIA List

A registered Holstein cow owned by A H and J K Risser of Bainbridge R1 posted the top 305 day lactation in June for the Red Rose Dairy Herd Improvement Association with 16 803 pounds of milk and 834 pounds of fat. Furry H Frey of Lancaster led June herd butterfat with 64 pounds and 1 623 pounds milk across 317 Holsteins. The Nissley & Son herd in Bainbridge R1 produced 21 575 pounds milk and 801 pounds fat for second high cow. Stoltzfus herd Honey Brook R1 topped June butterfat at 61 pounds and averaged 1 718 pounds milk for the period.

Four Local Youths Advance From 4 H County Dairy Show

Lancaster County 4 H Daily Club youths compete at Guernsey Pavilion with 120 showmen presenting dairy projects. Judges include John Harris and Richard Baily. Winners earn spots for the Southeast Pennsylvania District Dairy Show in Hershey. Donald Bollinger named grand champion showman. Earl Stauffer grand champion fitter. Nancy Stauffer reserve fitter.

Martin Shows Grand Champion At FFA Swine Event

Ken Martin of Denver Al topped 161 hogs with a 205 pound Yorkshire barrow at the FFA annual hog show at Lancaster Union Stock Yards. Cloister FFA of Ephrata High won the rotating Best Chapter plaque for the third year.

Lancaster County Poultry Association Plans Field Trip

The Lancaster County Poultry Association announced its annual field trip will stay within the county. Unconditioned buses are arranged for those who wish to ride, with a fare of 150 dollars. Buses will load at the Lancaster Shopping. Continued on Page 5.
