United Way Advance Division Kick Off In Lamesa

United Way campaign starts with 7 AM event at Forrest Park Community Center. Chamber of Commerce reports record 69 new members, pushing total past 400 as Dorothy Haney tops signups. Campaign goal set at 37 250 and funds aid Scouts, Senior Citizens, Boys Club, Day Care, Goodfellows, USO and Red Cross. Poster contest work underway in Lamesa School system with mid October judging.

Membership drive pushes chamber over 400 mark

The Chamber of Commerce reached 400 members after adding 69 new members in this year’s campaign. President Bob Capps announced at the awards luncheon that the total membership is the highest on record.

Delegation Traveling To Austin For Interstate Route Bid

A Lamesa led delegation will appear before the Texas Highway Commission in Austin to seek interstate designation for U S 87 from Lubbock through Lamesa Big Spring to San Angelo. The effort has Midland Odessa San Antonio Corpus Christi and Lubbock backing with Armi Rust of San Angelo presenting. The group includes J D Dyer Jr Skeet Noret Bob Capps Walter Bucker Judge Leslie Pratt Alton Addison Dalton Myers Lloyd Cline Carroll Taylor and Art Roberts.

Open House Highlights Texas Highway Department Functions

Visitors from local middle and high schools toured the Texas Highway Department facility on the Lubbock Highway during National Highway Week. They learned about engineering plans for Farm to Market Road 1066, the materials testing labs, and the Maintenance Department which oversees 296 miles of paving plus 600 miles of ditches and signs.

Norman Ross speaks at Lions program on oil industry

Norman Ross production superintendent for Kewanee Oil Company West Texas District addressed the Noon Lions to summarize a month long effort to acquaint Dawson County business and civic leaders with the oil and gas industry. Ross, a former resident of the area, was the principal speaker.
