Norman Ross of Kewanee Oil Company spoke to two civic groups in Lamesa about water flooding in the Welch Field. He said 92 percent of Welch production comes from water flooding and that the method is the most successful secondary recovery, with 10-15 barrels of water per barrel of oil.

Dawson County Tractor Pulling Contest thrills Saturday crowd

The first Dawson County Tractor Pulling Contest drew 22 entries with prizes in several weight classes. Durwood Blagraves led 12 000 pound super stock with a full track pull, ahead of Ronnie Wilson in second and others in close competition. The event, sponsored by the Lamesa Noon Lions Club, wrapped with multiple strong pulls and a note of future coverage.

Dan Harp grows potatoes in county demonstration plot

Dawson County farmer Dan Harp reports his two year county demonstration plot yielded around 200 sacks of potatoes last year and will likely exceed that this year from a three quarter acre patch. He planted May 2 and expects sales at five dollars per sack field runs.

School Board OKs policy changes and building trades project

The school board approved amendments to suspension and expulsion policies, rules on married and pregnant students, and a temporary disability leave policy. A tennis program survey was authorized, and Pritchard Abbott valuation engineers got a two year contract tabled for next meeting. A vocational building trades project to construct a house for Carl Spears was approved with school manpower and tools provided.

Lamesa Schools Dismiss Early for Pecos Game

Lamesa districts will dismiss elementary at 2 p.m. and other schools at 2 30 p.m. Friday to allow travel to Pecos for the football game. Buses run on the early schedule and the high school pep rally is at 11 25 a.m. as the Golden Tornadoes prepare to meet the Pecos Eagles.
