Dawson County Fair Honors First Bale of Cotton
Charlie King receives a $259 premium from the Lamesa Chamber of Commerce for Dawson County’s first bale of cotton this year. The 44 pound bale, grown on King Farms near Lamesa, was ginned at Patricia Gin Inc. and came from 11 acres planted April 16 with Brightmaster 4-5 seed. Ginners Joe Garcia and Lalo Lopez helped as five hands picked roughly two days to gather the bale. This is King’s fourth year attempting the first bale and Patricia Gin’s second consecutive first bale in the county.

Ray Don Britt Dies In Plane Electrocution Accident
A fun morning ended in tragedy when a model airplane entangled in overhead lines electrocuted Ray Don Britt, 17, at 11 40 a m near Plains Fairway Golf Course. Witnesses named Louis Alexander and Brenda. The lines reportedly carried 7 200 volts and burned the wires and wet grass where Britt stood. Funeral plans were not available at press time.

A cross section of Dawson County residents favored Nixon 124 to 10 in a straw ballot conducted by the Press Reporter this week. Optimist Kiwanis Noon Lions Rotary groups each polled hewing to the president with large margins. One undecided and two write in Wallace noted. A follow up ballot is planned around October 10 to track shifts.
