Fire damages at Cotton King Gin near Lamesa

A Sunday night fire at Cotton King Gin six miles west of Lamesa on US 180 destroyed about 125 trailers and 600 to 700 bales of cotton. Damage estimated up to 250000 dollars with 200000 to 250000 from insurance. Firefighters battled gusts up to 88 mph as volunteers moved trailers to prevent spread.

Firefighters Fight Blaze as Ginners Move Trailers to Safety

As the fire raged, ginners and farmers pulled 80 to 100 trailers off the highway to safety. They also relocated gin equipment and bales of ginned cotton to protect assets and prevent further spread.

First Killing Frost Reaches County Officials Say

Griffin Evans Tie for Top Money in Grid Contest
