Fatal crash near Lamesa claims Colorado pilot
A 27 year old Colorado man identified as John Richard Salter of Wheat Ridge died when his leased twin engine airplane crashed on a sandy Dawson County road about 13 miles south of Lamesa. Investigators say engine failure forced a right hand landing on US 87 area but the plane bounced four times and burned, with fourteen gasoline cans boosting the blaze. FAA teams and investigators from DPS examined the wreckage noting extra fuel and improvised gear, while DEA eyes possible Mexico destination. Mrs. Jack Greggs alerted authorities about the crash around 8:50 p.m. and the incident drew police response to the site.

Lozanos v Sheriff’s Dept. ruling denies damages injuncts stays
A federal suit against the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office ended with Judge Halbert O. Woodward denying all relief for Milton Lozano Jr. while granting a permanent injunction for Milton Lozano Sr. Deputies Lambert and Nance were dismissed. The injunction requires Sheriff Kinnison to accept Lozano Sr. bail bonds meeting Texas law, barring national origin or family activity as grounds. The decision notes no conspiracy by Nance and allows release on own recognizance where eligible. The case began last July with a $150,000 damages claim and proceeded through trial in April.
