Million and a Half Dollar Rain Boosts Dawson County Cotton
Rainfall across Dawson County ranges from three inches near Caprock to half an inch in Welch with Lamesa at three quarters to a half. County Agent Colgan calls it a million and a half dollar rain, praising the moisture while noting 25 percent of the county was planted and some fields may need replanting or reworking. Heaviest rain hit Key Midway and southern areas, with hail losses complicating gauge reports. Farmers say moisture should help finish cotton emergence despite potential replanting.
