Employees were alerted to a potential phase out of Dotty Dan with a 30 day timeline. The shutdown would affect about 150 workers and impact the local economy, though Magnatex hopes a buyer could relocate production and preserve the skilled labor force.
Lawmen caught Tommy Joe Pointer inside McCall Drug and linked the break in to 17 burglaries. Police say Pointer entered through roof ducts, was found with drugs and store goods valued around 600 dollars. An accomplice described as wheel man escaped.
Dawson County students exhibit at the Middle School Gym with setup Friday after 4 p.m.Judging Saturday and public viewing Sunday 1 to 3 p.m. High school entries vie for regional bids. Lamesa High School trio Ronnie Nix Wayne Crane Dennis Dingus noted for challenging projects including speed effects on plants. Exhibit removal by 4 p.m. Sunday.
A Lamesa native Rudy Arredondo filed for a City Council ballot position Monday. He is active in local youth programs and churches and runs Arredondo Masonry Construction. Arredondo lives with his wife Sylvia and son Javier and cites community service as his motive. SEE ARRENDONDO PAGE 2
Dotty Dan Manufacturing Co. of Lamesa may close its sewing plant on N. 4th St within 30 days after notifying workers it will not produce fall and winter lines. Magnatex plans to sell the facility but seeks local investment and possible buyers to avert closure.
Ray Douglas, longtime Lamesa businessman and founder of Automated Controls, filed for the April 2 City Council ballot. He moved to Lamesa as a child in the 1940s and cited gratitude to the community as a motive to serve. He spoke to the Press Reporter before page two.
Leonard Scott, a Lamesa native, became the fourth person to file for a city council seat. He said he has time and a desire to serve, noting many residents are busy yet he is semi retired and seeks an opportunity to help the city.
