Dawson County Commissioners approve a 140 282 dollar airport improvement plan for Lamesa to add a new runway and lighting with county and city matching funds. The project will be funded by FAA 70 141. Texas Aviation Commission 50 000. city and county 20 141.

County program meeting set for Thursday at 2 pm in courtroom

The annual county wide meeting on 1973 agricultural programs will be held Thursday at 2 pm in the District Courtroom. Eddie Brown and Lee Roy Colgan urge all farmers and landowners to attend to have questions answered as cotton and feed grain programs are discussed and farm planning guidance offered.

Science Fair Postponed One Week in Lamesa High Center

Lamesa’s annual Science Fair has been postponed to the weekend of March 9-11 in the Lamesa High School Student Center. Richard Davis says the delay is due to the Tor basketball contest in Austin. Entry blanks show this year’s show will be strong with expectations near last year’s 200 entries.

Welch Livestock Show Scheduled This Saturday

The second community stock show of the season will be held in Welch this Saturday at 1 p m. Judge Robert Becher of Brownfield will judge lambs barrows and steers. About 60 4 H Club and EFA members from Dawson Schools at Welch will display around 80 lambs 60 barrows and several steers.

Administrative Contracts Approved By School Board

Lamesa Schools Dismiss Early for Playoffs

Lamesa schools will dismiss early Friday due to the state playoffs in Austin. Alvin Cannady says North and South Elementary will leave at 1 30 p m and Central, Middle and High School at 2 p m. Buses will run on those times. See school page.

Rhonda Qualls to Attend International Affairs Seminar

Miss Rhonda Qualls, one of 50 Texas and Oklahoma high school juniors and seniors, will attend an International Affairs Seminar March 1 11. Sponsored by Christian Churches Disciples of Christ in Texas and Oklahoma, she travels From Love Field Dallas to New York City to observe the United Nations then to Washington DC to study the U.S. government, with small group work on a Christian view of world affairs.
