City Council Calls April 5 Election To Fill Two Seats
The council set an April 5 election to fill two three year terms held by Lon Bryant and Joe Carroll with John Middleton as presiding judge. Both incumbents indicated they would not seek re election and no candidates had filed yet. The meeting also considered a five year goodwill franchise for Western Media and approved a first reading. Library funds were increased by 100 dollars monthly for February and March pending the new budget.

O'Donnell Bank Robbed on South Plains
A man about 55 to 60 robbed O'Donnell's First National Bank around 1 p.m. by presenting a note to cashier Dean Davis and taking cash. He fled in a blue late model car, described as a Chrysler or Plymouth, with law enforcement from Lamesa, Lynn County, and Texas DPS searching nearby roads. Investigation ongoing with FBI and Texas Rangers involvement.

Two Lamesa Men Charged With Passing Bogus Twenty
Two Lamesa men Charles Shook 18 and Ricky Ray Simpson 20 were charged in a federal case for passing a counterfeit $20 bill at McKinney’s Service Station in Lamesa and attempting another at a Lubbock Handy Hut. Arrests followed after attending clerk noted the car license. Secret Service agents joined the investigation with U.S. Attorney filing charges in Lubbock. Bonds were set at 5000 then reduced to 1000 on defense motion.
