Lamesa Man Sentenced for Arson of Own Home
Richard Sustaita pled guilty to arson after investigators linked the Monday night fire at 1609 N. 12th St to him. He was arrested at the police station Thursday afternoon by Police Chief Lee Bartlett and Assistant Chief Gerry Brown following a cooperative probe by officers and fire department investigators Jim Peterson and Royce Dyess. Firefighters noted a petroleum odor at the scene about midnight.

Winter Storm Lashes West Texas With Winds And Sleet

Dawson County marks 75 years of press history with roots tracing to 1905. The story begins with the Dawson County News founded by J E Garrison, passing through W S Willis M J McDonald C O G Campbell and Ashmore before Charles Houser led in 1909. Houser, educated immigrant, guided editorials that spurred local progress over nine years with W E Gaines and W A Brooks as associates. In 1917 J W Smith Sr purchased the paper, renamed it the Lamesa Reporter, a four page weekly sold at 1 per year, surviving WWI and postwar downturn before selling in 1929 to Wilburn Hawk and Gene Howe.
