Lamesa schools adopt 9:30 am to 4:30 pm schedule from January 6 through February 28 to align with the sun. Trustees hope local businesses adjust for working mothers and note buildings stay closed until opening. A Christmas concert at Lamesa High School is planned and the Christmas Greeting edition of the Press Reporter will run weekend.
The Dawson County United Way drive exceeded its $37,250 target by $3.68, raising a total of $37,255.68. Campaign leaders and divisions including Commercial, Advance, Mail, General, Farm, Special, Government, School, Telethon, and Spanish dance reported strong results and leadership notes.
The Lamesa High School choirs present their annual Christmas Concert Thursday at 7 30 p m in the High School Auditorium Admission is 1 for adults and 50 cents for students Tickets are available from choir students or at the door The freshman and sophomore mixed choir Golden Chorale Pop Choir and Girls Choir will perform separately before a combined finale Soloists Shelley Montgomery Lane Heald and Bobby Buckel are featured The program runs about an hour and a half directed by Larry Wesson
Clyde Branon Stephen Henry and Annie Bailey named to three year terms on the Museum Board during Monday night council meeting. Tom Branon also appointed to a two year term on the Planning and Zoning Commission in the same session.
The defending district champion Golden Tornadoes beat Colorado City Wolves 61 to 29 to open district play. Kent McCurley led with 14 points, Jim Roberts 12, and the Tornadoes used all 14 players. The game was played amid an outside sandstorm affecting visibility and lighting.
