The community revels in Christmas lights on the courthouse square with the annual shopping issue featuring 14 two color ads. Dawson County cotton harvest slows with bale counts down and prices halved from 1973, as farmers cope with subdued demand.
State report by the Texas Civil Judicial Council shows county and municipal courts statewide overburdened. Dawson County records 161 new cases in six months of 1974, including 13 civil, 120 criminal and 28 probate cases.
Public invited to Neal Echols Ford as Miss Ford Country Sandy Lankford appears for ribbon cutting and daylong personal appearances. Lankford has promoted Ford at rodeos civic events and via ads. See Ford Page 2 for details. Also note 120 civil cases began year with only 13 cleared, leaving 110 pending.
The United Way campaign shows 36,612.95 raised, 95.72 percent of the 38,250 goal, with 1,637.05 still needed. A Dec 13 benefit dance at the National Guard Armory, featuring Carlos Miranda of San Antonio, is planned to boost funds. contributions can be sent via the Chamber of Commerce.
Dawson County officials and city leaders met at the Civil Air Patrol Hangar to finalize procedures for a new runway at Lamesa Municipal Airport. Paperwork from TAC and FAA remains, with grants already approved, and construction could start after year end pending agency signoffs.
