A local notice proclaims W. C. McCurry as a Democratic Sheriff candidate pending county convention action. James A. Woodcock is named Coroner. Republican contenders include Chas Crawford for Constable and E. F. Irwin for Surveyor, with Anderson Stewart as Assessor and Lorenzo Jones for Superintendent of Schools. Also listed are Abraham Deeter for Justice of the Peace Lamar precinct, 59- E. Pike for County Treasurer, W. P. James for Commissioner, and Captain Billow as former Sheriff and longtime party worker.
The Prowers County Republican convention on September 8 1891 at the courthouse adopted a permanent organization and elected a full slate led by Morton J Underwood for County Clerk and Recorder. Delegates from Carlton Granada Holly Lamar Wilde chose W P James for Commissioner Third District and other officers. The meeting praised J D Martin and adjourned sine die with a unified ticket.
New York Assembly member Mr. Kelly introduced an act to forbid sale of baking powders containing ammonia or other injurious ingredients. It requires a conspicuous label on every can or package saying Contains Ammonia and makes noncompliant sale a misdemeanor. The act would take effect July 1, 1891.
