Judge J K Doughty, longtime Lamar lawyer and county judge, is a strong Republican candidate favored to win the county race. The Second Congressional district GOP convention in Colorado Springs nominated H H Eddy over Hosea Townsend by 236 to 164, with Eddy expected to become a powerful representative and silver advocate.
