The New Year blaze in Granada destroyed a large block of stores including Mrs Barton restaurant and J L Mayfield Co dry goods, wiped out the post office, and damaged or ruined stock insured at various amounts. Suspicions fall on Mrs Barton with arson charges. preliminary hearing delayed to January 13.

School resumes after break as locals arrive
After a week vacation our school has taken up its studies. John Sweringer of St. Joseph, Mo., has located here. His family are ex pected to arrive next Friday. Our school board has ordered maps, globe and a clock and expect to have them in place this week. The work of preparing lands for crop and seeding of winter wheat has been vigorously pushed by sev eral during the past two weeks. Fes. Kven it is reported was the factor in having the work done of late between the river and town. He deserves credit for his successful effort.
