Big San Luis Valley Colony to settle near Alamosa
A syndicate of capitalists plans a new town eight miles from Alamosa on the Creede branch of the Denver & Rio Grande. The group has bought 10,000 acres from the Southern Colorado Land Company for about 200000 dollars. Lead investors include Peltere Hill and E C Bickel of Indiana, Peter Sumner and P W Sumner of Illinois, and John M Schaupp of Iowa. They will bring East farmers to work land on shares and may start a beet sugar factory near Alamosa with construction likely to begin January 10.
