Parmenter’s peach butter and McLean’s holiday goods headline a busy local scene. Johnston’s promotes felt shoes mufflers rings and cloaks while Downing’s shop offers blacksmith and wagon work. Masons plan an annual banquet and a tent show by Gus Rapier’s company supports Mrs. Rapier. A prowler wolf or mountain lion spooked Lamar residents.
The ladies of M. E. Church will serve a hot supper in the Ironclad building in the kindergarten room Friday December 16 starting at 5 30. Tickets 25 cents. All are invited. The Carlton school shows rising attendance and interest and Amityville plans growth with new district buildings and no bonds. The Granada school features improve reading and curtains and a Christmas ship for Sunday school. County teachers meet cold weather reduced attendance but lively discussion on sensation and mental elaboration. Dr Alston Ellis will attend the next meeting with program details in county papers.
The sixteenth session of the Prowers County Teachers Association will meet at the Lamar public school on Saturday January 14 1899 at 130 PM. Program includes Rev J S Knuxory on Reproductive Imagination Memory and discussions on Productive Imagination by J A Rosebrough Miss Geneva Morehouse and others. A 730 PM lecture Educational Progress by Dr Alston Ellis president of the State Agricultural College invites all to attend and submit questions for the question box.

Rocky Ford Ice Co pays a 25 percent dividend, boosting stock enthusiasm. A shooting near Las Animas leaves one man seriously injured. a life saved by a match box bullet. A skating accident at La Junta claims a youth, John Tombs, with the survivor’s body recovered later. Holly Chieftain notes a move to form a city hall stock company. Santa Fe reports cantaloupe exports from the Arkansas valley: over 12,000 crates by express, 31 refrigerator cars loaded, 685 freight cars, totaling 14,324,000 cantaloupes, about one fifth per American. Apple crop shipments are superb.
