Carlton Postoffice Robbers Sighted in Southwest of Lamar
A weeklong posse from Lamar pursued the Carlton postoffice robbers across the region southwest of Lamar. After hot pursuit and a brief gunfight near the Murray ranch, the outlaws escaped at dusk with two posse horses killed, and subsequent rescues allowed the gang to flee toward Las Animas. Local deputies and neighboring counties organize renewed drives, vowing to wipe out the gang. In Lamar, deputies guard the camp and recruit fresh volunteers as the search widens with leads tracing toward Las Animas and Trinidad.
