Sugar Beet as a Colonizer and Local Growth

From Holly Chieftain notes and Amity Sentinel reports the sugar beet industry is linked to colonization in Colorado. Plans include sending landseekers from Iowa, constructing beet farms, irrigation schemes, new cottages, and a wave of colonists moving to Granada, Amity, Lamar, and surrounding towns as rail and telephone lines expand.

Colorado sugar industry may double beets processed

McLean Bros discuss Colorado sugar factories possibly doubling capacity by using beets stored in field pits or silos to extend campaigns beyond 100 days. They cite Arkansas Valley conditions, beet longevity to February, and compare Colorado to eastern and western states, noting Colorado leads Orange Judd Farmer comparisons. The note includes a week’s real estate transfers filed with the county clerk.
