Denise Welch installed as Saddleback Kiwanis president
Denise Welch was installed as 2013-2014 Saddleback Kiwanis president in a ceremony at Clubhouse Two. Lt. Gov. Dave Carter praised her, and new officers Jim Kane, Steve Carpenter, Jon McCoy, and Marilyn Vanier were installed. Welch, Kiwanis member since 1999, aims to continue her late father Park Dowd’s community legacy in Laguna Woods.

United Mutual directors resign 2. 3 new directors installed
United Mutual shareholders learned that Board President Phil Doran and Secretary Jerren Auble resigned for personal reasons. Acting President Jack Bassler announced the vacancies for two two-year terms and a special meeting set for Oct 28 to appoint replacements. Three new directors Ming Lee Chang Howard Klein Eva Lydick were elected for three-year terms expiring in 2016, running on a platform opposing Recreation Master Plan funding.

Annual South County food drive underway in Laguna Woods
The Laguna Woods Village led drive runs through November 15 to aid low income individuals and seniors in south Orange County. Donation bins are at Clubhouse One Fitness Center Village Library Community Center lobby Towers lobby Globe office and all clubhouses. South County Outreach reports 8,985 pounds collected this year aiding up to 90 people daily at the Lake Forest pantry. The nonprofit also offers housing assistance rental utility aid a computer lab and thrift store.
