Rising sheriff costs force Laguna budget cuts
Laguna city adopts 2015-16 budget but faces large increases in Orange County Sheriff's Department costs. The $2.3 million contract, 46 percent of the $5.6 million general fund, prompts staff and program cuts. Deputy additions to cover a third shift drive the hike, elevating safety concerns and prompting the elimination of the Services Grant Program aiding nonprofits including Age Well Senior Services and Braille Institute.
