Notable features of the Korean Hangeul alphabet
Hangeul was invented in 1444 and promulgated in 1446 during King Sejong. It has 24 letters with 10 vowels and 14 consonants. Consonant shapes imitate mouth movements. Korean shifted from vertical right-to-left to horizontal left-to-right writing since the 1980s and is regarded as an easy alphabet to learn.
