Stinnett wins the United Skim Tour title for the third time, saying the victory confirms years of hard work. The event drew top 40 pro skimboarders and about 120 amateurs, with Stinnett pleased to finish strong in third as a consistent scorer.
Sam Stinnett, 21, of Laguna Beach spent a low key celebration with friends and light drinking games, describing it as nothing too crazy. He lists sponsors Vector 9, Billabong, Main Street Surf Spot, Exile Skimboards, Relm shades, Freak Tractions. He works at Handplant Skateboards and skates, plays soccer in a Sunday men’s league when waves are poor for skimboarding.
Stand up paddlers from around the world gathered at Salt Creek in Dana Point for the seventh annual Battle of the Paddle. The shift from Doheny State Beach caused parking and crowding, with waves 4 to 6 feet prompting lifeguards to add rules and safety gear requirements.
