Velzy Classic honors surfing icon at 25th an event
The Dale Velzy Surf Classic and Luau marked its 25th anniversary at Doheny State Beach with hundreds of surfers and a party atmosphere. Attendees recalled Velzy as a craftsperson and pioneer who blended surfing with hobbies like hot rodding and cowboy life. The event featured a tandem exhibition and drew locals and visitors, including Velzy’s wife Fran Hoff Velzy and relatives linked to the surfing lineage.
