Japan US Iron Fist exercise trains allied amphibious ops
The 12th Iron Fist drill trains 500 Marines from the 1st MEF and 350 Japanese soldiers with eight Japanese navy officers, two ships and air support. Focusing on armored amphibious vehicles, live-fire and combined arms, the monthlong exercise tests joint command on a U.S. Navy ship, marking progress since 2006 and aligning with Japan’s plan to deploy the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade by 2018. Local residents and Anaheim’s 13th MEU Adoption Committee observed, underscoring taxpayer interest and mutual defense aims.
