Sea lions rescued reach record tally and face chlorine attack aftermath
The Pacific Marine Mammal Center reports a record 500 animals rescued this year as 17 sea lions at its Laguna Beach site suffered chlorine exposure in a rehab pool. Fifteen had eye burns, three remain in care, and officials note the incident prompts calls for stronger cruelty penalties and ongoing investigations involving NOAA, local police, and several animal welfare groups.
