Residents discuss safety after coyote attacks in Laguna Beach
About 50 Laguna Beach residents gathered at Top of the World Elementary School on August 15 to hear advice on coyote prevention after at least three dogs were attacked in the hillside neighborhood last month. Police and animal-services officials urged securing food sources, keeping small pets indoors, and not alarming coyotes, noting they are native and increasingly seen in daylight. Mona Roberts, who lost a dog to a coyote, advised shouting and deterring tactics, while officers offered home visits to share securing tips.
