G A Gates returned home Saturday from a four months visit to the coast of Texas. He found skilled labor in high demand with good pay and lower wages for common labor than in the north. Soo Section men receive a daily raise of 1.50 to 1.65 dollars effective Monday of last week. Freman workers gained about 3 dollars monthly about a month ago, boosting total monthly increases to 7.50. Fishing Party Returns With 85 Trout From Devils Creek
May 14 and May 16 records show Jesse Ewer of Atlanta and Jens Larson of Hawkins. A party led by Janning, Clark, Lee, Junroe, Manley, Johnson and Hill fished Devils Creek north of Apollonia, reporting a good time and returning with about 85 trout. Over 100 others fished the same creek on Sunday.

Obituary of Mrs Saphorona Griffin
Mrs. Saphorona Griffin died at her daughter Mrs Peter Gordon home on Sunday May 12 at eighty two. She was born in Connecticut and survived by two brothers William and Albert Sweet of Bloomer and four daughters including Mrs Peter Gordon of Ladysmith and Mrs Silas Calkins of Chetek. Funeral service was held at the home Tuesday by Rev D Jayne and the body shipped to Chetek for burial in Rusk town.

Boy Lost in the Woods Near Fern Wisconsin
The nine year old son of Mr. Fink went missing while hunting cows Thursday evening. Search parties scoured the area until a Broederville message reported the boy found Saturday morning. He slept beside a pine log the first night with his dog, then in an old camp at Broeder ville before being sent home by train.

Change in Fire Wards Ties to City Ward Numbers
A special fire department meeting proposed a constitutional amendment to align fire wards with city ward numbers, designating the business district as the fourth ward. Death of Grassland promoter Fairall dims North Wisconsin links
H. S. Fairall secretary of the North Wisconsin Farmers' Association died suddenly at the Hotel Davidson in Milwaukee at age 52 after a weeklong illness from a severe cold. He oversaw the Grassland ad vehicle touring northern Wisconsin counties and was a former newspaper man. Remains sent to Iowa City for interment. Track Laying Resumes North of Thornapple River
The Wisconsin Central track advances about one mile north of the Thornapple river with an expected seven and a half miles further to Ladysmith in two weeks. W. J. Sullivan, resident engineer, says no more work until grading between there and the Chippewa river is finished, with two cuts remaining. 40,000 yards of excavation remain to the Chippewa river, two and a half miles away, and steam shovel work will begin after ballasting. Track to the Chippewa is not anticipated before mid September.
