Tragic Deaths of Mrs Carl Benson and Daughter Alice
A coroner jury ruled Mrs Carl Benson and her six year old daughter Alice Hildebrand Benson died from strychnine poisoning at their home six miles south of Ladysmith. The tragedy, told at the inquest, described a wife who secreted poison and an end that followed a desperate motive amid family financial strain and a drunken husband. The husband and another son Lloyd survived. funeral details were given, and the inquest jurors included A C Thompson and F I Hughes.
