Citizens show strong interest in the proposed location for a new high school as details on site plans and benefits draw public attention. Officials encourage resident input and announce a series of information meetings.
The board circulated views on siting a new high school and urged letters to the board. Citizens favor an eastern location with several sites in Menasha Wooden Ware Co.'s First Addition, including blocks 10 and 4 and parts of blocks 5 and 4, plus East Fifth Street segment, at estimated costs around 9 000 to 11 000 dollars.
Miss Jeanette Kling of Cincinnati entertained a full Congregational church with a seven role performance in the four act drama Leah Kreshna. A clever comedy sketch How the Vote Was Won preceded the show and drew warm applause. The lyceum course ends strong with plans for a costlier six act lineup next year and an orchestra of ten pieces.
Readable sale ad notes ladies’ shoes offered at $2.50 and $3.00 values with an option at 49 cents. Indicates a closing out sale at a department store.
Married Mr Matthew Webb of St Paul and Miss Ella Curtiss of Sheldon were joined in marriage by Justice Manning at the Hotel Manley last Saturday morning.
Med Melloy of Chippewa Falls suffered an unusually bad fracture of his left ankle on Tuesday while loading logs at A C Thompsons camp near Weirgor. Dr Ross with Mr Thompson and H A Dimock attended him and he was transported to St Josephs hospital in Chippewa Falls for care.
The creamery once run by E. R. Godfrey & Sons Co. was turned over to the Ladysmith Co-Operative Creamery Co. Monday. Cc. P. Anderson from Shennington, Wis., arrived to lead the plant. A new $400 ripener was installed to ensure high quality butter, with strict cream handling throughout. About a hundred farmers attended a training school meeting discussing the venture.
City dray line offers sixteen inch dry stove wood delivered to any part of the city at one dollar sixty five per cord.
A. B. Chalfont visits from Sheldon on business. A. C. Johnson returns from Eau Claire. Cash Department Store offers special coats and men’s high top shoes with closing out prices. Sugar offer with purchases. E. K. Hughey of Bellevue visits on Lumber Co. business. Baptist services moved to 11:00 a.m. next Sunday.
Review lauds Geo L. Barton’s drama The Girl and the Tramp at Worden's Opera House on Monday March 9. Happy Jack the tramp is praised for dramatic range and ensemble performance with strong scenery and effects.
Miss Arneson spent the weekend in Stevens Point. Fourth grade pupil Daniel Howe led for six weeks while Marie Kane topped six-week standings in the same grade. The high school domestic science class started a Home Economics club, and seventh grade girls completed handmade kitchen aprons with Helen Robbins winning first in the apron contest.
Cash Department Store advertises a limited time offer on high grade patent flour priced at $1.05 per sack while supplies last. Local shoppers urged to act quickly.
The county clerk recorded bounty payments this past week to Clayton Lindsay from Marshall for a wolf, Joe Bickerdike from Dewey for a wild-cat, W. L. Hand of Thornapple for a wolf and wild-cat, and Frank Strove of Dewey for a wild-cat.
Dr. O. E. Bennett made a business trip to northern Minnesota this week. Carbon paper at the News-Budget office offers 2 sheets for 5 cents.
Ladysmith Camp No. 8672 M W A. adopts resolutions instructing delegates to the County Camp 1914 to oppose Chicago rates and to sign a pledge demanding rate repeal and reform of the order. The pledge requires voting against supporters of Chicago rates and for major reform of the Head Camp and local camps.
A teaser advertises the latest Indian motorcycle shown at the Ladysmith Auto Company garage. It promotes the newest model as up to date and superior in construction.
A bill by Representative Lenroot rearranges Wisconsin into Eastern Western and Northern districts to shorten travel for trials. No new positions or expenses, offices to be kept in Madison La Crosse and other cities with district terms set at specific months.
Rusk Farm Company transfers property to Albert Cizek and to Chris Volkman. Numerous other deeds include H M Green to Paul MilCik, Abe Sharp to Martin Fogarty, Norman Reinboth to Elizabeth Reinboth, Perle Coddington to W F O Connor, Charles B Wea to Eugene N Best, John H Moller to John S Tromburg, Thornapple Land Co to J L Gates Land Co, Ellsworth Mfe Co to C K Ellingson, T M Thomas to Henry Lee Davis, and Gates to Frank No Wak DW No 4284-0. Total amounts vary, with one listed at $1800 and another at $5387.60.
Tony and Ladysmith teams from Tony and Ladysmith schools meet Saturday evening March 7 in Tony. Admission is 10 and 25 cents. A competitive game is anticipated.
At the regular monthly board meeting the Church of Christ of Ladysmith authorized construction of a modern new church building. A temporary committee studied plans and cost, a building committee was appointed, and work will begin after plans are accepted. The facility will expand classrooms for a larger Bible school and enhance religious and social life. A detailed picture and plans will be published later.
An attempted burglary of F. E. Martins residence was interrupted last Friday evening when the intruder forced the front door and fled after being startled by Mr. Martins awakening to the disturbance.
A sixteen foot long birch log five feet across at the base was sent from A C Thompsons camp at Weirgor. Thompson donated the log to the city park committee and it is regarded as the largest birch logged locally. Plans call for a foundation and small pavilion to shelter the log as an attractive park arbor.
In the February term of Rusk circuit court the last case heard was Michael Michalski versus Thomas J. Skrzypczak and others over damages from flooding when a lake was drained. Judge Wickham has not yet ruled. Several other cases were continued to the next term.
The Chippewa Landing house, a longtime local landmark tied to Pine era history in Rusk County, burned Saturday afternoon. Occupied by E. V. Wynkoop and W. D. Kennedy the origin of the fire is unknown. Wynkoop family lost all belongings while the Kennedys saved most household goods.
